SPORTS MEDICINE

Whether you’re a high school, college or professional athlete, a frequent marathon runner, an occasional jogger, a weekend tennis player, or someone who simply enjoys any type of physical activity, sports medicine specialists can help maximize function, minimize disability and ultimately reduce time away from a sport, school work, and/or job. Many sports medicine physicians specialize in athletic injuries of the bones, joints, muscles, cartilage and ligaments, usually with a special focus on spine, shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle conditions. Sports injuries can result from accidents, inadequate training, improper use of protective devices, or insufficient stretching or warm-up exercises. Dr. Fowler is Fellowship trained in Sports Medicine and focuses on Non-Surgical treatments such as ultrasound and fluoroscopy guided orthopedic regenerative medicine injections.

Regenerative Medicine

Regenerative medicine is built on the premise that the whole body is connected and interdependent. This complex interplay can help identify factors that may be leading to chronic pain and repetitive acute injuries. This also can often lead us toward improving underlying flexibility, strength, stability and movement patterns.

Dr. Fowler continues treating CrossFit Athletes, weekend warriors, occupational injuries and combating normal aging and injury that occurs in the body. Dr. Fowler believes strength and fitness is one of the most powerful tools against typical aging and sickness. He combats his own aging through functional fitness strength training, mountain biking and rock climbing.
Through continued research on the latest, most up to date treatments, Dr. Fowler has experience using things like Rock Blades, Rock Tape, Kinesio Tape, IASTM, Cupping and Prolotherapy. Dr. Fowler also offers orthopedic regenerative procedures which use the healing agents from your own body to help you avoid surgery and get you back to doing what you need and love to do!

FMG SPORTS MEDICINE SERVICES

Our services are aimed at healing skeletal and soft tissues and increasing the overall tensegrity of the body. Increased tensegrity creates a solid foundation for your body’s movements, allowing you to perform pain-free.

Diagnostic Ultrasound (starting at $150)

Diagnostic ultrasound uses sound waves to image soft tissue, such as muscle, ligament and tendon.  It is painless and allows imaging with motion or stress through the tissue.

  • Helps to guide procedures for maximum results.
  • Shows the results of tissue repair.

Prolotherapy

Also known as Regenerative Injection Therapy, Prolotherapy is a medical procedure that involves the injection of natural substances into weakened musculoskeletal tissue to stimulate repair.

We’ve partnered with the world leader in the field of orthopedic regenerative medicine based on scientific publications and is arguably the world’s most advanced platform for in-office interventional orthopedics.

Metobolic Testing

Metabolic tests measure the rate at which your body burns calories and uses oxygen during rest or during different activities. Some of the data from these tests includes:

  • Resting Metabolic Rate – the number of calories your body burns at rest.
  • Metabolic Efficiency – the number of calories your body burns during exercise.

VO2 Max – the max amount of oxygen your body can use during exercise.

Why do I care about Metabolic Testing?
Understanding these values helps guide specific and individualized nutrition recommendations to help you fuel your body for training and peak performance, as well as for reaching your health and body composition goals.

Who will benefit from PNOE Metabolic Testing?

  • Endurance Athletes (Runners, Cyclists, Triathletes, etc.)
  • Power-based Athletes (Basketball, Crossfit, etc.)

Concussion Evaluation and Management

A concussion is a brain injury caused by a sudden hit to the head or body. Even if there are no physical signs of injury, the impact of the hit may shake the brain inside the skull causing the brain to function abnormally. A concussion is considered a “mild” traumatic brain injury because it is not life-threatening, but it does cause various symptoms, which impact daily function and may create long-term problems. By recognizing and treating concussions promptly, the overall effects can be minimized, and patients can safely return to their normal activities.

We recognize concussion as an injury that should be taken seriously. People who may have concussions should be evaluated, diagnosed and treated in a comprehensive way. We are here to provide the complete care people need after sustaining a potential concussion. We teach patients, and community members how to manage concussions in order to minimize long-term effects. Our physicians specialize in treating sports-related concussions, as well mild traumatic brain injuries caused by accidents or falls. They use the latest treatments and refer patients for rehabilitation services when needed.
